Andrew Thomson is planning to do a walk at the end of September with his daughter Lorna for which he is asking for sponsorship to raise money for St Mary's, Hordley and for the Severn Hospice. The walk is called The Clarendon Way and it runs from Salisbury to Winchester, a distance of 27 miles. You will be able to follow Andrew and Lorna’s progress through the Virgin Money Giving page (see link below). Good Luck Andrew and keep polishing those boots!
Day one of the walk started with a clear blue sky but a cold wind. We drove to Salisbury and then got in a bit of a muddle trying to find our way through a maze of one-way streets and residents’ only parking areas. We eventually got that sorted and walked to the cathedral to get some photographs of ourselves with the Great West Door as a backdrop. We were well equipped with maps, both on paper and on our smartphones, so we were able to navigate through the busy city shopping area and out into the countryside.
The blue sky and cold wind persisted all day, so we were able to enjoy a six mile walk, well wrapped up to keep warm, through woodland and open countryside. Mary met us with a picnic lunch and joined me for the final two miles while Lorna drove the car to our final destination for the day.
. . . and finally: we received a notification from VirginMoneyGiving that we had received another donation - £100 from Tracy Chevalier, the author who set me off on this adventure.
Hoping for more fine weather tomorrow.
